Additional Information: The small flash is a Canon 177a Speedlite. It's mounted to a the top of a DVD cakebox (rectangle cut to accept the flash lens). The cakebox cover is taped to a styrofoam bowl. The cakebox cover was used to allow the flash to spread a bit before hitting the diffuser. A paper towel is over the bowl to further diffuse the flash. Remember... This is macro photography on a budget. The handle-mount flash is too powerful for close work and cannot be used facing the object being photographed. There are two styrofoam bowls over the flash head. The flash fires into the box. The box helps direct the flash toward the object. The box is not absolutely necessary but without it, you have to be be careful not allow the camera to be behind the flash. If the camera is behind the flash, it will cause lens flares or will cause the photo to be washed out. |
