Additional Information: This section of the site shows the photos of coins taken three different ways. For most sets, I'll only give an explanation of the technique on the first of the four images from each set. In general, the coins look under-exposed (dark). In my opinion, this is the correct way to photograph these coins and many other items. If you get the majority of the coin brightly lit, you will have some areas that are blown out. Areas that are blown can not be recovered. For the most part, these photos can be manipulated in software to be brighter with little or no loss of detail. Below, you can see the before and after of one of the photos. If you don't want to have to do post-processing but want brighter images and blown highlights are not a concern, you can manually set your camera to produce brighter images.
